Seagulls are known as sea companions when you are on a sea voyage or short sea trips. They fly along with your ship on a hope to get some food on their way. These are migratory birds known for flying long distance from one country to another based on weather conditions.
I experienced their companionship on my recent trip to Alibaug through a ferry from Gateway of India to Mandwa port. It’s a distance of around 10 nautical miles. As the journey started, I saw a flock of Seagulls following our ship. It was interesting to watch Seagulls flying around our ship. People were feeding them bread pieces, potato chips and cheese balls.
I observed these birds throughout the journey and found some inspiring traits about them such as consistency and accuracy. They were in range of 30-40, flying not too high nor too low but just in line with the ship so that they could aim at food thrown in the air. It was nice to see their consistency in flying speed and accuracy in catching the food thrown in the air. There were drops too but they used to take a swift dive and pick the missed ones.
Most of them were perfect in catching the food at the right time. While picking the missed food, some were taking breaks by floating on water for few seconds and again joining the group in the food chase. I could relate their food chase to our real life goals chase. We all do chase for our goals in life. Sometimes we do take breaks when some goals are fulfilled and sometimes not fulfilled. But we do come back on race tracks for the new goals to be achieved. The chase for achieving new goals goes on forever as human wants are unlimited.
This journey with Seagulls was memorable one. After observing them for such a long time, I wish that I could fly like Seagulls 🙂
Here are some beautiful moments captured by me during this journey.
