The red-vented bulbul is a species of bulbul commonly found across India. This bird looks attractive with its dark black head and body with dark brownish scaly pattern. The rump of this bird is white while the vent is red. The end part of the tail is white. The appetite of bulbul depends majorly on fruits, nectar, petals of flowers and sometimes on small insects too.
Most of the time, these birds are found in pairs. It is easy to remember and recognise their calling pattern as it is a single note call – ‘Pickeahuu’ or sometimes ‘Pic…Pic..Pic…Pickeahuu’. I get to hear their calling every weekend as they come in search of fig fruit on the fig tree which is close to my building.
I feel happy when I see them in pairs, calling each other and playing on the fig tree.
Few days back, I captured one bulbul relishing the fig fruits. It was a close encounter and I could capture some good close-up pics.
For your information, the binomial name of this bird is Pycnonotus Cafer.
Here are some of the pics captured by me.
Note – The last three pictures are old ones captured on the same tree.

Where do you find these birds?

I look out for birds whenever I go for short trips or long vacations with my family. But some common birds can also be found in residential areas with gardens.
