The Shri Mahalaxmi Temple of Kalyan

The Shri Mahalaxmi Temple is located at Datta Ali near Tilak Chowk area of Kalyan, Maharashtra. It is known to be one of the oldest temple which was renovated recently. The renovated temple has a looks of the black stone temple architecture. I visited this temple for first time with my family on the Dussehra day.

It’s a beautiful temple decorated with lights during Navratri festival. As we entered the temple, we could feel the divine atmosphere. The Dashmi Havan/Hom was just completed and there was a slight smoke within the temple. The idol of Goddess Mahalaxmi installed here is the replica of Shri Mahalaxmi (Ambabai) of Kolhapur.

Even the ornaments including various golden necklaces and the golden mukhut/crown have so much similarities. While taking darshan, you feel that you are in the Ambabai temple of Kolhapur. On the right side of the ghabhara, a small idol of Goddess Durga was kept for women to offer haldi-kumkum, sarees and flowers/veni. This area was a bit crowded. But people were able to take darshan.

We took darshan of Goddess Mahalaxmi. It was a divine experience of visiting the local temple of Goddess Mahalaxmi with a feeling of visiting the Shri Mahalaxmi Temple of Kolhapur. After visiting this temple, I felt sometimes, we unknowingly miss/ignore to visit the temples in our locality or near by areas and we plan visit for temples located at far away destination. Don’t you feel? when God/Goddess are near to us and we search them at far away places.
