It’s a beginning of the year and the best time for new year resolutions. To participate in Mumbai Marathon could be one of the resolutions for Mumbaikars as every year thousands of Mumbaikars participates in this marathon. The marathon attracts participation from all age groups right from schools students (above 12 yrs) to senior citizens. Regular marathon runners/athletes runs to achieve their best timing goals, corporates runs for social causes such as supporting NGOs and some Mumbaikars runs just to show their love for this city of dreams.
The Mumbai Marathon, is an annual international marathon held in Mumbai every year in the month of January. It is the largest marathon in Asia and the richest race in India with a prize pool of US$405,000. Lots of international and national runners participates in this marathon. Even corporates encourage their employees to participate in the main races (42 Kms & 21 Kms) and Dream Run (5.9 Kms). It’s a great event to participate.
Some years back, I had participated twice in Dream Run with my better half for Nanhi Kali Foundation. We have been missing this event for so many years. This year also we couldn’t participate in the run. But I managed to visit the event location, clicked some photographs of Dream Run, Senior Citizens Run, Elite Run and also met my friend Shashi Ranjan at the finish point along with his friends who all had participated in 42 Kms race. It was nice to capture some running moments and meet these regular marathon runners who manage to follow their passion along with their regular profession/job.
Around 400 mts before the finish line, I was lucky to capture some winners from Men’s & Women’s Categories including Cosmas Lagat (Kenya), Aychew Bentie (Ethiopia), Shumet Akalnew (Ethiopia), Worknesh Alemu (Ethiopia), Birke Debele (Ethiopia), Sudha Singh (India), Jyoti Gawte (India) and Nitendra Singh Rawat (India).
Here are some photos captured by me during this event.
