Sarvoday Pooja celebrates Holi Festival 2020

The fear of coronavirus has impacted the Holi celebrations across the country.
This year some housing societies stayed away from the Holi celebration. However, there were some housing societies that celebrated the festival of colours with much enthusiasm. Like every year, this year too Sarvoday Pooja celebrated Holika Dahan and Rang Panchami.

On the eve of Holi after sunset, the holy pyre is lit, signifying Holika Dahan. The ritual symbolises the victory of good over evil. Maharashtrian women performs
pooja of Holi and takes pradakshina or parikrama. Some people sing and dance around the fire. This tradition is mostly followed in the Western and Northern parts of India. In our society, the committee members take time out of their regular work and make arrangments for the Holika Dahan celebration.

The Holika Dahan celebration lasted for 1-2 hours. It’s always a nice feeling when you celebrate any festival with your society members. We all parted away after the Holika Dahan celebration. Rang Panchami, the next day arrived when we all gathered in the society premise to play the festival of colours. This year also there were very few members who participated in the celebration, except the baccha (kids) gang. They were at their best and unstoppable.

With the music playing in the background, kids had a great time by smearing colours on each other and sometimes throwing water-filled plastic bags on each other. As every year, this year too, the garden water pipe was used to create the rain dance feeling in the society premise. The Mahila mandal (ladies group) also participated in equal enthusiasm.

At the end of the celebration, we all enjoyed the vada-pavs along with the kids.
It was nice to meet everyone during the celebration and capture some beautiful holi moments. Here are some photos captured by me.
