Shri Chintamani Ganpati Temple is located around 25 km from Pune. The temple is “one of the larger and more famous” of the Ashtavinayaka,
the eight revered shrines of Ganesha in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
Here are some photos captured during my first visit to Shri Chintamani Ganpati Temple.
How to reach
- For travellers from Mumbai, you can take the Mumbai to Khandala road route. As soon as you cross the Bhor Ghat, the town of Theur can be located in Haveli Taluka, Pune District.
- For travellers from from Pune, Theur is located about 22.5 kms from the city. You can take the road route of the Pune-Solapur highway. The halts on the way are Hadaspur and Loni. At Loni you can ask for directions from the locals, as you may miss the left turning which takes you to Theur.
- Another alternative from Pune is to board the State Public Transport buses which ply from Pune to Theur. You can board theses buses either from the Sarasbaug bus stand or the Poolgate bus stand.
Travel tip
For travellers from Mumbai/Thane/Kalyan, Mumbai-Pune passenger trains are the best option. Catch any early morning passenger train – Indrayani/Intercity Express. Get down at Pune station and hire vehicle for Ashtavinayak darshan.
