The Konkan region of Maharashtra is well known for its beautiful beaches, temples, malvani food and mangoes. It is also well known for Jatras (Funfair)
which are organised in various villages during temple utsav (festival).
One of the main attraction of these Jatras are the sweet stalls. Most of the sweets are home made and some also made on the spot which includes
Malvani Khaje, a very famous sweet of Konkan. Boondi Ladoos, Halwas, Geevar, Khaja, Ambe Vadi, Konkani Chivdo/Chivda are also in high demand.
Most of Mumbaikars/Thanekars who are from Konkan region visit their village to take blessing from their Kuldevi/Kuldevta, family goddess/god during these
Jatras. They bring back lots of memories along with these sweets.
I had attended few Jatras with my family during my Konkan trips.I love these sweets and always enjoy these Jatras with my family. If you are on Konkan trip, make sure to attend such Jatras and take back home some sweets from
Konkan 🙂
Here are some photos of sweet stalls captured during Girobachi Jatra
in Shiroda village.

Heard about Giroba’s Jatra. But not the first person account. So, would request you to tell us more about the deity and the temple of the deity in one of your upcoming posts.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your comments ☺ Anagha. I’ll definitely write a detailed post on Giroba someday.
