An educational trip to Nehru Centre

Have you ever heard about Pleiades, Hyades, Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Vega, Crater, Bootes and Pyxis? Well, these are all constellations, the group of stars that forms a pattern to be identified. The constellation information was a part of small movie on Biography of Universe which we saw last week in Nehru Planetarium located at Nehru Centre, Mumbai.

This was a short trip planned by my daughter which turned out be a nice educational trip. The Nehru Planetarium is dome shaped theatre where they show various educational movies on Astronomy. It also has grown into a center for the scientific study of astronomy and for a meeting of scientists and scholars for discussions and lectures, arranged periodically on various stellar and Astronomical events. For the current movie on the Biography of Universe, you need to book ticket online or reach one hour before the scheduled show.

In the Planetarium there are various display boards on astronomical events and large pictures of planets. It was interesting to see kids reading those informative boards and gaining more knowledge about the planets. Once you enter the dome theatre, kids becomes more excited after looking at the different seating arrangement which is in circular pattern. The Biography of Universe movie takes you through journey of universe right from the birth of universe to the unpredictable end of universe.

Apart from the Planetarium, you can also visit museum on the first floor of Nehru Centre. This museum is known as the Discovery of India Exposition. There are over 50,000 exhibits, spread over an area of 100,000 sq. feet and divided into separate sections, historically as well as architecturally.

If you want to plan one day trip for your kids along with something interesting to learn about planets and history of India, then Nehru Centre is the must visit place.
