Chikhloli Dam and Waterfall

The monsoon has hit most of the cities and villages of Maharashtra more than expected this year. In Mumbai and Thane region, we experienced very heavy rains for more than two weeks. As we are nearing end of July, almost all dams near by Mumbai are over flowing. It is time to visit near by waterfalls or dams, enjoy the waterfall, rain and the green beauty of the nature.

In past two years, I along with my family had visited Bhagirath and Kondeshwar waterfalls. This year, we had planned to visit Bhivpuri waterfall at Karjat. But due to last moment changes, we finalised a quick visit to Chikhloli Dam which is located nearby Ambernath and Badlapur railway stations. Both railway stations are close to Kalyan station. It was a quick four hours monsoon trip for us.

We started our journey around 4.00 pm from Kalyan and reached Badlapur at 4.20 pm. From Badlapur, we had to take 5 km ride through an auto rickshaw. It was a new place for us, we requested the auto rickshaw driver to wait for a hour’s time so that we could go back to station. He agreed for the waiting time. As the auto rickshaw started, the rain also started. Oh my God, I thought we have to return back. But luckily the rain stopped. The ride was smooth till the entrance of the Chikhloli Dam.

Further we had to go through a muddy road, approximate 15 mins walk. Once we reached the Chikhloli dam, the clouds started becoming dark again. The dam view was very beautiful in a background of mountains. The rainy weather added more beauty to this picturesque dam. Beside the dam, there is a waterfall formed through the over flowing dam water. Lots of people were enjoying with their family and friends in the dam water and waterfall. We too had a great time in the waterfall. After spending about an hour, we started our journey back to Kalyan.

This quick monsoon trip was enjoyable and memorable too. Here are some photos captured by me during this trip.
