I wake-up on the call of chirping beautiful sound during weekends. The early morning silence makes the sound more clear which hits the ears and forces me to get up from bed to see my friends have arrived. Hopping from one branch to another. These are my favourite tiny birds known as common tailor birds.

The chirping sounds goes on for few minutes till their partner arrives or sometimes their hunt for food is over. They largely depend on small insects and fruits such as fig or fruits of banyan tree. I see them throughout the year on different trees in my vicinity. They are mostly found on fig and banyan trees.

I like the bright green upper part and the flapping tail of this bird which makes it the interesting watch. However, it is difficult to capture shots of this bird as the hopping movement is very fast. You can capture them only when they are steadily eating their food or calling their partner with the beautiful sound.

Whenever I come across these birds, I try to take few shots if my camera is close by. I call them friends because I see them once a week and they make me realise that there is a beautiful life other than the rat race we live in.

For your information, they are also known as Orthotomus Sutorius and popularly known for making nest from large leaves or joining two leaves. They are most found in all parts of India [1].

Here are some beautiful pics of my friend – the common tailorbird.
