People across India are gearing up for the Diwali Festival which will be starting from 5th November 2018. Markets are full with varieties of kandils/lanterns which are used during Diwali.

Today in Kalyan market, I was happy to see more traditional handcrafted and eco-friendly kandils than the Chinese lanterns. It seems that people have realised to celebrate Diwali by using products made in India instead
of imported ones.

I spoke to few kandil sellers. They did mentioned that there is very less demand for Chinese lanterns. It’s almost diminishing. People are looking for simple and colourful kandils made from paper, bamboo or transparent fabric which gives a traditional look.

We all need to support our local markets and economy. So instead of purchasing imported kandils/lanterns, let’s purchase our traditional kandils and support our local sellers.

Wishing you and your family a very Happy & Prosperous Diwali 🙂

Here are some photos of traditional kandils captured by me.

These Kandils reminds my childhood memories. How we used to go to market for buying them and then fix. Today modern kandil can not do the magic which was created by such papermade kandils. Happy Diwali, enjoy.

  7. You are right. We must buy goods made in India. One reason Chinese goods are capturing the market is because these are less expensive. But in the process Indian workers are losing their livlihood. Government should educate people about buying India made goods. At the end of the day, customer chooses what his pocket can afford.

Abhijit, you have hit the right point on Government educating people to buy ‘Made in India’goods. However, people should also think about
benefits of buying local goods. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your comments 🙂 Happy Diwali 🙂
