Orange-headed Thrush

This year’s summer trip to Konkan was a memorable one. Apart from visit
to Sindhudurg fort and scuba diving experience, I had spotted a pair of new
bird species in one of farms in the Shiroda village of Sindhudurg district.
With once a year trip in Konkan, I always look forward to spot a new bird and know more the about avian species.

One afternoon, I saw a pair of bird hopping on ground in a search of food. Their movement on the ground was very slow. They stood still for 2-3 mins in one position as if they were posing for a shot. I observed them hopping in the same place for more than 30 minutes. It was interesting to capture their shots from a close distance.

After searching various birds databases on Google, I came to know that the orange headed bird with two black stripes below the eye is known as the Orange-headed Thrush (Geokichla citrina). It has a small white throat, greyish wings and white bottom. This bird has a different colour texture which looks beautiful while hopping on the ground.

According to the Wikipedia, the Orange-headed Thrush is an omnivorous bird which eats wide range of insects, earthworms and fruits. This bird is a shy, secretive and usually seen alone or in pairs in well-wooded areas of the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

In Konkan region, this bird was spotted by other birders in Amboli, Chiplun, Ratnagiri and Malvan.

Here are some pics captured by me.
